Denver Water School Conservation Project
Engaging Hundreds of Students in Conserving Water
Denver Water selected a team led by Brendle Group to conduct indoor and outdoor water use assessments and identify water conservation opportunities in over 200 schools in Colorado’s Denver and Jefferson County public schools. Focused on indoor end-use fixtures and process water use as well as outdoor irrigation uses, the project aimed to identify significant water and cost savings through fixture and equipment retrofits.
Departing from a standard engineering approach, Brendle Group hired and trained a team of students from Colorado State University, who in turn recruited and coordinated teams of student volunteers in each K-12 school to assess their own end-use fixtures and report their findings. As a result, significant water savings were identified while over 600 elementary, middle, and high school students were provided a rewarding, hands-on water conservation education learning opportunity.
