Senior Water Engineer

Brendle Group seeks a senior water engineer to join the team in our Fort Collins or Denver office. We hire strongly from our professional networks and believe in finding the right person first and then shaping the consulting practice and position details to maximize both the applicant’s career development goals and the company’s impact-driven, people-centered priorities. This is a full-time position but we would be open to part time arrangements.

Each of our team members has breadth across a range of sustainability practice areas, with one to two deeper core competencies. For this position, we’re specifically seeking passion and professional experience in sustainable water management. Our water services are delivered at various scales (e.g., watershed, community, district, campus, portfolio, buildings) covering the full project life cycle from idea to implementation. Our water services are highly integrated with our climate and energy services and often are driven by aggressive net zero or regenerative goals. Our primary clients in water are water utilities, local governments, research foundations, higher education institutions, school districts, ski areas, and real estate developers.

As a senior position, we’ll be looking for candidates with existing skills and interests that include thought leadership, market development, and building and managing effective teams.

We are looking for people with a strategic orientation who are passionate about sustainable water and possess the professional integrity, maturity, agility and decision-making to drive results.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in sustainable water management services
  • Actively integrate water expertise with energy and climate services, recognizing the interconnections in achieving sustainability goals
  • Employ the appropriate analytical approach, tools, data management, and analysis to turn complex data sets into actionable information
  • Optimally position and grow Brendle Group’s existing services in the marketplace that align with our Strategic Plan
  • Effectively manage multiple projects in collaboration with clients, staff project managers, and other senior staff
  • Ensure exceptional quality service delivery, ranging from development to quality assurance to mentoring of staff
  • Develop new technical services and products to meet client demands and innovate in the marketplace
  • Help with recruitment and staff development, building and managing effective teams

Qualifications and Experience

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Self-motivated, ambitious, innovative team player with a passion for water
  • B.S. or higher engineering degree; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of water engineering experience with at least a basic understanding of western water law
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a management capacity, including managing people and team building, managing sizable budgets, and/or managing entire programs or service areas
  • Experience and proven track record in winning and managing business across multiple customer channels
  • Beyond experience, candidate must be impact-driven with quantifiable results commensurate with career path and years of experience. Examples include demonstrated impact in one or more of the following areas:
  • Utility-scale water planning applied towards water supply, water efficiency, drought management, or hazard mitigation
    • Using water use and financial data to design programs, assess performance and support operational decision-making
    • Significant new policy innovation implemented at the local government level
    • Stakeholder engagement in planning and decision-making, education and outreach
  • Consulting and workplace skills
    • Strong knowledge of PC-based software applications
    • Database skills (MS Access, SQL, or other relational database platforms)
    • Strong writing, verbal communication, and facilitation skills
    • Demonstrated project management success
    • Demonstrated business development success
    • Previous experience in or exposure to the consulting industry

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

Preferred qualifications and experience include any of the following:

  • Nationally or regionally recognized for work and influential in the sustainable water industry, as evidenced by participation in industry networks and leadership positions
  • Consulting business experience and understanding and enthusiasm for working in a small business atmosphere
  • Demonstrated thought leadership and innovation
  • Relevant professional certification(s) commensurate with career path to date, such as but not limited to, the following examples:
    • Professional Engineering (PE) license
    • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
    • MBA with a focus on sustainable enterprise and/or other sustainability-related licenses and certifications such as LEED and Envision
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, trained facilitator, and/or other related project management and professional training
