A few years ago, we published International Climate Migration: What Can U.S. Communities Do?, a white paper that examined how climate change is influencing global migration and what it means for local planning. That early research helped shine a light on a rapidly emerging issue: how U.S. communities can prepare to welcome those displaced by climate impacts.

Today, the topic feels more timely than ever—especially as the national conversation around immigration grows more polarized and support for inclusion becomes increasingly fragile.

Despite these challenges, we are proud to present our next step in this work: the Climate Migration Toolkit. Developed through a collaboration between Brendle Group (drawing on our climate resilience expertise) and Welcoming America (bringing deep experience in immigrant and refugee inclusion), the toolkit is a practical, accessible resource for communities seeking to lead with foresight and compassion. We were thrilled to present this resource at this year’s American Planning Association National Planning Conference in their online session Welcoming Communities in an Era of Climate Change

We are inspired by the number of professional’s across the country reaffirming their dedication to equity, inclusion, and the ethical responsibility to promote public well-being. From early insight to action-oriented tools, this work reflects a simple idea: climate planning is about more than infrastructure—it’s about people. We’re honored to support professionals and communities who are leading with vision and values.
