Energy Savings for Schools

The Colorado Energy Office’s (CEO’s) Energy Savings for Schools Program (ESS) provides technical resources for Colorado school districts and includes:

  • Free capacity building with technical support and energy and water coaching
  • Free customized Resource Management Plan that identifies priorities and activities, helps gain district buy-in, and creates a culture of conservation
  • Free energy monitoring equipment and coaching to track electricity use in real time on a web-based dashboard
  • Free hands-on resources for engaging students, including printable educational materials and learning activities
  • Free recognition opportunities and connections to peer districts

  • Resource planning support and best practices for long-term energy, water, and cost savings
  • Help identifying and pursuing potential funding sources

Eligibility

To be eligible for the ESS Program, a district must:

  • Receive state funding
  • Have at least three schools in the district

Below are some additional factors for consideration to determine if the ESS program is the right fit:

  • Status as rural and/or a high percentage of low-income students
  • Clear program champions and district commitment
  • Demonstrated ability to implement program elements
  • Ability to provide at least 12 months of utility data (water, electricity, natural gas, or propane)
  • Previous participation in ESS, energy audits, or facility upgrades
