Our friends at Spirae recently repaired the two EV charging stations they built and installed for our Fort Collins office in 2016. Don Wright is an applications engineer and long-term employee with Spirae who helped initially design and install these stations. He was back on site to diagnose, source parts that aren’t readily available anymore, and ultimately repair the chargers. How’s that for customer service?

Spirae working on EV chargers

Here are some surprising facts about Spirae and our charging stations:

  • These charging stations were designed and produced by Spirae to test their software that monitored and controlled EV charging stations.
  • Don noted their design is called “squashed tube technology”. They’re literally constructed out of metal cylinders that have been compressed.
  • We’re working with Spirae to connect our charging stations to their cloud for future project research.
  • When the two EV stations were installed, there was one employee at Brendle who drove an EV. Today we have 11 employees who drive EVs at Brendle, demonstrating that workplace charging does increase EV ownership.
  • Our charging stations are open to the public to charge their vehicles for free, Monday-Thursdays during business hours.

The technology behind EV charging stations and electric vehicles continues to evolve with demand steadily growing. We’re grateful for the support of Spirae’s innovative team to allow us to keep our charging stations running 12 years later instead of replacing them!
