Climate action has long been a priority for the City of Northglenn. Brendle Group supported Northglenn in the development of their first-ever Climate Action and Resilience Plan. The plan pairs the city’s existing momentum with new opportunities to provide a clear and comprehensive roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance the community’s resilience to current and future effects of climate change.
The plan is organized into six topic areas that set the stage for addressing the biggest opportunities for Northglenn to mitigate climate emissions and bolster resilience and adaptive capacity. Each topic area has an objective that helps define desired outcomes and one or more solutions. Solutions are the “big levers” that will help make progress toward topic area objectives – like reducing vehicle miles traveled. Solutions are home to specific actions Northglenn will implement over the next five years.
The planning team identified over 80 potential actions through the planning process. To help maximize City resources, Brendle Group helped Northglenn elevate 20 priority actions to implement over the next five years. Each priority action includes implementation details, including the lead department, resources to support implementation, and key steps for implementation.
Perhaps most importantly, 11 of the 20 priority actions boast strong alignment with the Northglenn City Council 2025-2029 Strategic Plan. This synergy helps to align priorities, ensure adequate staff support, and maximize funding. For the first year of implementation, Northglenn will focus on putting systems into place and tackling activities that are no-cost or leverage existing budgets – like piloting a neighborhood tree planting program and conducting energy audits of municipal facilities. Northglenn’s Climate Action and Resilience Plan is a great example of stretching community resources and staff capacity to maximize implementation impact.
